Abstract

A green car is a vehicle that is considered to be environmentally
friendly and have less of a damaging impact on the environment than
conventional cars. Environmentally-friendly vehicle is a road motor vehicle
that produces less harmful effects on the environment than comparable
conventional internal combustion engine vehicles running on gasoline or diesel.
Eco-friendly car run on electricity or a combination of electricity and
hydrogen-based fuel. This research was carried out to understand the awareness
among consumer regarding eco-friendly cars and to ascertain the factors that
affect consumer decision making in automobiles. This study also examines the
impact of demographic factors on purchase decision. This research aims
at practical ends and benefits from survey method. In order to collect
information, descriptive research was conducted. A research-made questionnaire
has been utilized to study factors
affecting green purchasing behaviour on automobile to identify the impact
of income on purchasing green car. The statistical population was on license
car holder customer of automobile in Bangalore city. Judgmental sampling was
used in order to determine the amount of the sample. Based on this,
questionnaire sheets were divided among the customers. In order to analyze the data,
the chi-squared test was used.
Alternate Hypotheses have been accepted.

1.
Introduction

A green car is a car that uses alternative
fuel sources to run. Alternative fuel sources, such as biodiesel fuel, solar
energy or rechargeable battery electricity, to run the car. Green cars are
usually much more environmentally friendly then conventional cars as they have
less pollutant emissions and use sustainable fuel resources. The hybrid and
electric cars are two new designs widely considered eco-friendly alternatives
to the familiar gas-guzzlers. The electric car is actually quite an old idea.
The other eco-friendly style is the hybrid car, which attempts to combine the
best features of the electric car with the advantages of the conventional car.
Green cars are usually much more environmentally friendly because they have
less pollutant emissions and use sustainable fuel resources. If more drivers
opt to drive cars that require less fuel, there will be a positive effect on
the energy sector. It is also important to drive in an ecofriendly way through
simple changes such as gentler acceleration and stopping your vehicle slowly to
burn less fuel.

Toxic emissions from regular vehicles
contribute to global warming that can have devastating effects on the
environment. Aside from cutting down on the numbers of vehicles, it is also
essential for more vehicles to use less fuel. Vehicles that require less fuel
do not emit as much toxic substances into the air as regular ones. Improving
gas mileage goes a long way towards reducing the release of carbon dioxide
while the car is in use. Although it costs slightly more to purchase a green
eco vehicle than a conventional car, the return on investment is instant. Costs
such as fuel, insurance and maintenance drastically reduce and you end up
saving a lot of money in the long run. Proper care and responsible driving are
essential when using any type of car and the design of eco vehicles are such as
to have a minimal impact on the engine.

2.Statement Of The Problem

A study was done on the
consumer awareness towards eco-friendly car and a study was done on the
purchase intension of environmental cars. However, no study was done on factors affecting green purchasing
behaviour on automobile.
Climate change are widely demonstrated within the scientific community.
Emissions of the Green House Gas (GHG) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from automobile
now become environmental concerns in many countries. Burning fossil fuels is
one major cause of this problem. According to this circumstance, car
manufactures nowadays have been inventing vehicles that emit less pollution per
mile in order to respond to the pressure of polluting the environment.
The present study focuses to understand the awareness among the consumer of
eco-friendly cars and to ascertain the factors that affect consumer decision
making in automobiles

3.Review of Previous Literature

Researchers have attempted to study the factors affecting green purchasing
behaviour on automobile.
Climate change are widely demonstrated within the scientific community.
Emissions of the Green House Gas (GHG) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from automobile
now become environmental concerns in many countries.

Jamaliah
Mohd. Yusof, Gurmit Kaur Bariam Singh (2013) made a
study on Purchase Intention of Environment-Friendly Automobile. It examined purchase intention of
environment-friendly automobile by investigating the interrelationships between
the consumer’s environment responsibility feeling, values, knowledge,They found
that environmental knowledge has no significant influence on consumers
perception of the environmental advertisement. However, it has a significant
influence on the perception of the environment-friendly automobile.

Joompoth
Sanitthangkul (2012) attempted a research on Factors Affecting Consumer Attitude
toward the Use of Eco-CarVehicles. This study emphasizes on car users’ attitude
toward eco-cars and factors that influence their attitude as well as the chance
of using eco-cars. The results confirm that attitude of car users on eco-cars
plays an important role in determine decision of using eco-cars.

Dr. T. Vasanthi, N.kavitha 2016 conducted a study to explore
the extent of the impact of consumer buying behavior towards the marketing of
green products in Tripura city and the study focuses on examining the level of
acceptability and reach of green products among consumers in the market by
using convenience sampling method found that the study reveal there is
significant relationship between the variables which affects consumers buying
behavior for green products.

Ivan K. W. Lai,Yide Liu (2015) studies on Factors
Influencing the Behavioral Intention towards Full Electric Vehicles. The results
demonstrate that environmental concerns and the perception of environmental
policy are antecedent factors of the perception of full electric vehicles,
which influences the behavioral intention to purchase full electric vehicles.

Nitin Joshi1, D. P. Mishra(2011) conducted a research on Environment
Friendly Car: A study of Consumer Awareness with special reference to
Maharashtra State. The objective of the study is to understand the awareness
levels and create awareness of the EFC so that the efforts of the manufacturing
the green car will be achieved

4.
Objectives Of The Study

1.To
understand the awareness among consumer regarding eco-friendly cars

2.To
ascertain the factors that affect consumer decision making in automobiles

3.To
examine the impact of demographic factors on purchase decision

5.Scope of the Study

The number of sample is limited to 75 respondents and
duration to study is 2 months. The research is confined to the upper section of
the society who are the LMV licensed holder (car users) in Bangalore.

6.Hypothesis

H0: There is no significant difference between income
of consumer and purchase decision of automobiles

H1: There is a significant difference between income
of consumer and purchase decision of automobiles

7.Research Methodology

This descriptive
research covers a sample size of 75 respondents and confined license car
holders in Bangalore. The type of sampling used is judgmental sampling. The
data collected for study is primary data through structured questionnaire. The
collected data were tabulated and analyzed using excel. The tool used for hypothesis
testing is Chi- Square test.

Since the p value (0.028) which is less
than the significant value (0.05), we reject the null hypothesis that there is
no significant difference between income and purchase decision of automobiles and
accept the alternative hypothesis that there is a significant relationship between
income of consumer and purchase decision of automobiles as
conventional car comes in lesser price than a green car.

9.Conclusion

As Narendra Modi has told that will turn all the new
passenger car sales electric by 2030.As per the research study found that many
of the customer are aware of green car but still they are not ready to convert
because it does not function well as conventional car. So, there is a relation
between income and purchasing decision of consumers because the price of green
car is much higher as it an electric car.
