After parking out in the natural states of the Western parking-lot system I managed to boost a few stat mis through the air current and rain to the PAC on a stormy November 9th in Bellingham. Having shaken myself off I found a comfy place in the upper deck and settled in to bask the heat and music of the eventide. Minutes after I sat down the choir filed in to organize a semi-circle around the music director. Everyone was dressed up in black and looked striking for the eventide & # 8217 ; s public presentation.
The eventide & # 8217 ; s public presentation was split into three separate choral groups ; The Western voices, which consisted of 15 members, seven male and eight female, the concert choir which included the 15 members of the Western Voices along with several others, and the Squalicum High School Concert Choir which I will non include in this reappraisal. Although I have no experience with choral music I have had several old ages of orchestral preparation which allows me to bask and appreciate other types of music.
All pieces performed by the Western Choir were sung in French, so I was unable to decode the exact words of each piece, but the emotion held within the choir members more so adequately expressed the message of each vocal. I attribute this astonishing quality of sound to the acoustics of the concert hall they are astonishing.
The Western Voices first choice was John Corigliano & # 8217 ; s L & # 8217 ; Invitation au Voyage. During this public presentation I was settling into the temper and was trying to set to the unexpected foreign lingua in which the piece was performed. I was shortly overcome with the power of these 15 people & # 8217 ; s voices. It sounded as if there were a 100 pupils down on the phase, all harmonising their voices to make this moving ridge of emotion that flowed over the audience. The female and male elements of the choir where staggered, with the male voices set back about three pess from the females to assist play their backup function in the piece.
The following choice, Wechsellied Zum Tanz, was really short, but besides really beautiful. The members of the choir brace off male/female and sing to one another as if in a province of wooing. The usage of call and response in this piece is to a great extent relied on. The twosomes to the left of the phase s
ing a poetry in a happy and elating tone merely to be chastised by the choir members on the right side of the phase. They call back in a lower, subdued tone as if to inform the other members of their folly. The two elements of the choir take bends refuting each other until both voices trail off and the piece ends with a sorrowful piano mark.
After intermission the Western Concert Choir combined once more to sing five more vocals, but by far Cloudburst shone above them all. This was one of the most astonishing pieces of music that I have of all time experienced. As I sat at that place and listened I found that my jaw had really dropped to the floor and I was left goggling like a fish out of H2O. As the piece starts the Sopranos periodically and quietly name out. This consequence is sprinkled out through the choir stands to imitate the peal air current and soft beads of H2O before the storm. Soon the Mezzo-sopranos and contraltos articulation in as the & # 8216 ; rain & # 8217 ; picks up in strength. The integrating of the lower tones is seamless and absolutely executed leting for the fluxing feeling of H2O. Suddenly a strong bass barytone calls out over the adult females, like a forceful air current blast, the tenors follow suite, but in a more hushed and hushed voice. The full choir synchronizes into one voice, get downing from a really low pitch and volume and raises it steadily as the storm forepart attacks. Then the voice drops to a low susurration and a set of bells is set into gesture, the composure before the storm. BOOM! A big bass membranophone work stoppages and a sheet of Sn is rolled back and Forth to imitate the boom. The voices of the choir become sporadic, blowing left to compensate as the storm rages. The volumes is about deafening at this point, but easy the choir lulls, the beats on the membranophone become less frequent and farther off, and eventually the Sn is put to rest. The choir snaps their fingers quietly the storm is over.
I was so moved by this piece that I stood up and clapped smartly, the people around me following suite. I enjoyed this public presentation really much and would urge the Western Concert Choir to any that show involvements in music. Their tone and lucidity is uncommon for their vernal visual aspect, but I was cheerily surprised by their abilities. I look frontward to their Christmas concert following month.
